Brushing Your Teeth

While it is more difficult to brush and floss with braces, here are a few simple recommendations to keep your teeth clean. by clean we mean plaque-free. It is plaque that can cause white stains and cavities around braces.

Brush your teeth at least twice a day. In the morning before school or work and before you go to bed. Concentrate on the areas above the upper braces and below the lower braces. We will provide you with a straight brush to get in between your braces.

Flossing is important as always but is more difficult to clean between the teeth. If you are not a regular flosser then a Waterpik would be a good investment to clean the areas that regular brushing misses at least once a day.

The whole idea is to keep your teeth clean to avoid stains/cavities and keep your gums from getting swollen.

Eating Habits

This is basically pretty common sense stuff:

Avoid hard and sticky foods like chewing ice cubes and toffee
Don't chew on pencils and pens
Some foods like carrots and apples should be sectioned.
Try to limit sugary snacks and drinks or have them around meal time and rinse your mouth thoroughly if you can't brush.
